This barn was built on the foundations of an 1880 calf barn that burned in 1910. The date stone for this barn is still visible inside the new barn. The 1880 barn included a large, brick–vaulted root cellar that survived the fire and was incorporated into the design of the new barn. The present structure had its upper stories poured in concrete and stuccoed over with cement, with a slate roof. The date was then imprinted on the north end of the building.
Today, the 1910 Barn Complex houses classrooms and a lab for our UMass graduate program in Historic Preservation, as well as an outpost of SoCo Creamery. Stop in during your visit for some delicious locally made ice cream!
