Ministry Wash House

This small brick structure was most likely built around the same time as the 1830 Brick Dwelling. The Shakers washed daily in their bedrooms with dry sinks, ceramic pitchers, and bowls, but would have entered this building in order to bathe fully. Its stone floor allowed water from bathtubs and basins to easily drain to the ground below. This building fell out of use by the late nineteenth century as indoor plumbing was installed in buildings throughout the site.
